Early Years / FS

Fostering a lifelong love of learning, the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum sets the educational standards for young children.
At Al Maharat Private School, our approach to the teaching of these foundational concepts is holistic, play-based and tailored to each individual’s needs and interests. We aim to create a safe and nurturing environment in which children have the opportunity to learn, explore and develop skills for the future.

The Play-based approach to learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage is based on children’s natural curiosity and encourages problem-solving and independent thought. We provide purposeful activities, age-appropriate materials and appropriate challenges to stimulate exploration and discovery. Our teachers are trained to observe, listen and respond to the needs of each child in their care, allowing them to progress at their own pace.

We create an environment where children are encouraged to ask questions, express themselves freely and discover their potential as independent learners.

Our Early Years staff are highly skilled in providing exciting play-based learning experiences with a focus on the three primary areas of development:

1. Communication and language;
2. Physical development;
3. Personal, social and emotional growth.

We further support the advancement of these areas through four specific strands: literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design.

At APS, we firmly believe that every child and adult in the Foundation Stage should feel happy, inspired and valued. Therefore, our curriculum is designed to be bespoke, diverse and engaging to ensure that each learner starts their academic journey on a positive note.

Parental Engagement

We also understand that a child’s first contact with formal schooling is often the start of a new and exciting journey for the entire family. We strive to build strong, positive relationships between school and home by actively engaging with parents in their children’s learning. Through regular communication, we aim to ensure that all APS families are well-informed and feel supported in their child’s academic journey.
